Long hair styling: How do I go about styling my long hair?

I have a lot of hair but it very fine so it doesn't curl well. I'd like to use a big spiral blush to give it a little body from day to day...is there a certain way it should be cut to do this? What kind of brush should I use and how should I go about this?

For optimal hairstyling, ask your hairstylist for long layers throughout your hair. Not only will this create the perfect baase for creating more hairstyles, but it is also a lot more modern and flattering.

**To acheive maximum body here is what you need to do:

1. Wash hair with a volumizing shampoo and conditioner. This will thicken the hair cuticle and prevent hair from being weighed down. Try Herbel Essences Body Envy $3 each.

2. Towel dry your hair and let it airdry until it is just damp.

3. Run a volumizing serum/mousse throughout the hair to give it body. Focus on applying it at the roots of your hair as this is where you want to give it lift. Try Suave Body Lifting Mousse $4.

4. Bend your head down and blowdry your hair pointing the nozzle down towards your roots. By directing heat in the opposite direction of hairgrowth, you are able to achieve a lot more height at the roots.

5. When your roots are dry or mostly dry, get the bristle boar round brush out to dry the rest of your hair. The bristle boar offers the best control when styling hair and thickens the hair cuticle as it styles, which is great if you want to acheive volume in fine hair. Just simply gather 2 inch sections of hair and run the bristle boar through it as you blowdry the hair. Continue doing this until ALL the hair is dry.

6. Run a dime-size amount of shine serum at the ends of your hair or on any flyaways- this is to calm down any frizz without weighing hair down. Try John Friedas Frizz Ease Serum $6.

**And there you have it - the best blowout to giving you sexy and volumous hair**

If you want a bit more texture throughout your hair, repeat the same as above, only afterwards, put hair in hot rollers for 10 minutes. This will give you bounce and a bit more flirty curls to play around with.

If the above is too much work however, you can always take a shower the night before and put your hair up in a really high bun (make sure your hair isn't dripping wet though - put your hair up in the bun when it is just a bit damp). Sleep with the bun in your hair all night long and wake up and take it out. There will probably be some kinks in it, but you can simply get your straightener out and smooth it out.

For a beachy textured look, try braiding hair the night before when it is wet. Then when you wake up in the morning, take out the braids to reveal light waves. Run a texturing serum throughout the waves to give extra definition and hold. Try Pantene Prov Texture Mousse.

You can use rag curls. Cut up rags, twist them in your hair, and sleep on them over night. In the morning you will have curls. Depending on how you put the rags in your hair, depends on what kind of curls you get.

Why don't you try getting layers? Layers are great for long, thick hair because then you're able to wear curled styles or wear it straight.
