Long hair problems :[?

Is there anything I can do to keep my hair from constantly forming into a mass of tangles? Its to my hips and it knots up instantly. I can't brush my hair every 5 minutes

Okay, I have very long, dark thick hair that falls to below my waist. It's got a bit of wave to it....and I have the same problem as you ~ I don't want to brush it every five minutes.

START with a GOOD, quality shampoo %26amp; conditioner. I use one made especially for long hair. It's called REDKEN SO LONG. It's the best stuff on the planet. It's a little more expensive, but it's definitely worth it......

You also might want to try a deep conditioner or oil treatments.

When I was a young child, I used to get the "ethnic" hair detanglers.....they worked really well. I'd detangle my hair before washing it and it helped a lot.

Have you tried a leave in conditioner/detangler. They make your hair a bit more slippery and silky, and I find applying one of these after towel drying can really help. I really like Redken All Soft leave in cream.

My daughter had very long, fine hair that tangled constantly. Biosilk helped with that and gave a a pretty shine. The only drawback is that it can be a bit pricey.

Put it into an updo or some type of a hairstyle besides letting it flow free. Try a braid, multiple braids, a bun, a ponytail, a chignon, etc....

braid it

when i was longer i had really long hair and i braided it sometimes there were like no knots!

Tie it back, especially on windy days.

Leave in conditioners work well.

When you wash your hair, let it dry naturally and don't brush or comb until completely dry.

Get it cut regularly to reduce split ends.

I agree with all the suggestions on using a rinse outconditioner/detangler. Even a separate spray leave-in conditioner/detangler. You may want to put your hair up or braid it when you're out or doing a lot of physical activity. Try combing instead of brushing. If you have a lot of damage and/or splits, you may need a trim
